Usage tips
- To read a voltage higher than an ADC input allows, the 470 kΩ forms a divider with a lower resistor to GND: with 100 kΩ, 12 V becomes about 2.1 V and the divider draws only about 21 µA, ideal for battery monitoring.
- With such high-value dividers the ADC reading may be unstable: a 100 nF capacitor between the divider output and GND makes it steadier.
- With a capacitor it forms a time constant τ = R x C: 470 kΩ x 1 µF ≈ 0.47 s, useful for delays and timing.
- At this value the limit is the working voltage rather than the power: with 250 V across, about 0.53 mA flows and only about 0.13 W is dissipated.
- Resistors have no polarity: read the code starting from the yellow band near the edge, with the gold band last.
