RFID Antenna Handbook LF-HF by Giuseppe Zella is a handbook devoted to the antenna, the element that lets RFID readers and tags exchange data and, in passive tags, harvests energy from the reader's field to power them. It explains how to design and build antennas for the LF and HF bands, with analysis, formulas and practical examples, and includes 1:1 scale masters for making antennas and printed circuit boards. The book is written in Italian.

Key features

  • Theory of magnetic coupling between reader and tag, with formulas ready for design work
  • Antenna coil design: inductance, quality factor Q, bandwidth, tuning
  • Antennas for readers and for active and passive tags, wire-wound or printed as a spiral on a PCB
  • Practical section on building transmitting and receiving loop antennas of various sizes
  • 1:1 scale masters for antennas and printed circuit boards

Contents

  • Coupling relations in RFID systems: electromagnetic theory, fields of the infinitesimal dipole, electromagnetic compatibility, field-generating structures, effects of antenna size.
  • Designing RFID antennas: voltage induced in the coil, wire type and ohmic losses, inductance of various coils, antenna circuit configuration, resonance, Q and bandwidth, tuning methods.
  • Antennas in practice: loop antennas, antenna matching, copper tube antenna, double loop antenna, small antennas, coupling between antennas.

Specifications

  • Title: RFID Antenna Handbook LF-HF
  • Author: Giuseppe Zella
  • Publisher: Sandit, Elettronica series
  • Edition year: 2012
  • Pages: 242
  • Binding: paperback

  • ISBN: 9788897599364

Usage tips

  • LF tags need inductances of a few millihenries, so the antenna is wound with a few hundred turns of wire. At HF a few microhenries are enough and the antenna can be printed as a spiral on the PCB: the book helps you pick the right solution for your operating frequency.
  • The most common LF and HF RFID frequencies are 125 kHz and 13.56 MHz.

Package contents

  • 1 book

Typical uses

  • Designing LF and HF RFID readers and tags
  • Building loop antennas for experiments
  • Electronics and telecommunications study and teaching
  • Technical reference for hobbyists, technicians and designers
