Key features
- Pre-wired and waterproofed (with heat shrink) version of the DS18B20 1-Wire digital sensor
- Handy for measuring temperature far away or in wet conditions; being digital, there is no signal degradation even over long distances
- Fairly precise: ±0.5 °C over much of the range, resolution selectable from 9 to 12 bits
- Uses a single digital pin of the microcontroller; several probes can share the same pin thanks to the unique 64-bit ID burned in at the factory
- Temperature-limit alarm function
- The sensor is good up to +125 °C, but the cable has a PVC jacket: keeping it under 100 °C is recommended
- Sensors tested to be genuine Maxim DS18B20
- Dallas 1-Wire protocol; for Arduino the DallasTemperature and OneWire libraries are available
- Not for use in salt water or corrosive environments: not IP rated and not guaranteed for long-term or high-pressure use
Technical specifications
- Sensor: DS18B20
- Interface: 1-Wire (single digital pin)
- Measuring range: -55 to +125 °C (keep under 100 °C because of the PVC jacket)
- Accuracy: ±0.5 °C from -10 to +85 °C
- Resolution: 9 to 12 bits, selectable
- Conversion time: less than 750 ms
- Power supply: 3.0 to 5.5 V
- Probe: stainless steel tube Ø 6 × 30 mm
- Cable: 91 cm, Ø 4 mm, PVC jacket
- Wiring: red 3–5 V, black (or blue) ground, white (or yellow) data; on the 4-wire version the copper wire is soldered to the cable shielding
Typical uses
Remote temperature measurement of non-corrosive liquids, humid environments, greenhouses, fridges and freezers, data loggers and networks of several probes on a single bus with Arduino and other microcontrollers.
