Key features
- Solves I2C address conflicts: devices connected on the output side answer the controller on the input side at a translated address
- XOR translation: bit A6 (most significant) is always flipped, bits A4 and A5 are flipped or kept with the two on-board DIP switches, for 4 combinations
- Example: an AHT20 with fixed address 0x38 becomes 0x78 with both switches ON, 0x58 with A5 OFF, 0x48 with both OFF
- Footprint for an optional XOR_LOW resistor that also changes the 3 lower bits, for more than 4 combinations
- The translation value is read at chip start-up: after a change the LTC4316 must be reset through the Enable pin
- Does not support clock stretching: not suitable for chips that need it, such as the BNO055
- Unlike an I2C multiplexer it needs no code to select channels; the device driver must however allow the new address to be set
- Qwiic-compatible STEMMA QT connectors on both sides: solderless connection, also daisy-chained with other sensors
Technical specifications
- Chip: LTC4316
- Interface: I2C (input and output)
- Translation: A6 always flipped, A4/A5 via 2 DIP switches, lower bits via optional XOR_LOW resistor
- Connectors: 2 × STEMMA QT / Qwiic
- Dimensions: 25.2 × 17.7 × 5.8 mm
- Weight: 1.9 g
Typical uses
Connecting several sensors or displays with the same fixed address on one I2C bus, expanding existing projects without rewiring, alternative to I2C multiplexers.
Package contents
